A representative contacted me (obtained
my business details from my new website)
and said they would advertise my
business via their Webmail email site at
a cost of R1,000 per month x 12 months
for a guaranteed 60,000 views. I made it
clear to the salesperson that I was
unsure, and that I would only go ahead
(if at all) in August as I had to still
decide. He got out his sales book and
filled in my details with whatever it is
that I required, etc, quoted a price per
month, etc. and left. I mentioned to him
that althought I knew very little about
websites, I believed that the so-called
ad seemed to be a flash graphic on their
website, with a hyperlink to my website.
He assured me it was targeted marketing
to 60,000 or more clients per month. I
have since found out that it is exactly
as I mentioned - a hyperlink and nothing
more, targeted to no-one but whoever
happens to log into their mail via their
webmail server.
I requested cancellation as no money has
exchanged hands, no artwork has been
supplied or agreed upon, no person has
contacted me regarding anything of the
sort, and yet THEY WANT MY MONEY AND
THEY WANT IT NOW AND THAT'S THAT - no
cancellations - I HAVE TO DO BUSINES

Dear Marianne Are you willing to lay charges? Or complain to Carte Blanche or the Direct Marketing Association? Or Star's Consumer Watch columnist Wendy Knowler - consumer@knowler.co.za If so, please do it or contact me. I am trying to get a group together to press charges at one police station, which will force the Police to investigate. (This site's "Send e-mail" feature does not work, so I've posted this instead)
